Another perspective of this day in history.ย

  1. Wow, I hadn’t realised that it was Reformation Day, thanks for the nudge !
I’ll certainly celebrate that, as I don’t like Halloween. All Saints Day is good, of course.

Martin Luther said some amazing things, especially on Faith and Conscience :

    – I have held many things in my hands, and have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God’s hands, that I still possess.
    – Good works do not make a good man, but a good man does good works.
    – Faith is a living and unshakable confidence, a belief in the grace of God so assured that a man would die a thousand deaths for its sake.
    – Faith is permitting ourselves to be seized by the things we do not see.
    – Faith must trample under foot all reason, sense, and understanding.
    – You are not only responsible for what you say, but also for what you do not say.

  2. Another aspiration – read much of Martin Luther’s work ๐Ÿ™‚
I listen to Desiring God frequently and hear so much about the founders of the church, the human pillars of our faith. Thank you for sharing some quick nuggets- they’re a lot to “chew” on ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. To be honest, I haven’t read his works, but discovered things that he had said ! Certainly, he was a very wise man and many things didn’t change in hundreds of years. Mankind didn’t learn as much as it should have done in this time.

I know very little about the foundation of the modern church, but this has prompted me to learn more. I did read all of Rick Warren’s books and they are amazing.

You are a brilliant writer Abby, so one could argue that you should spend more time writing than reading ๐Ÿ™‚ What about writing a whole book ? : join all the pieces of the jigsaw together. You have the corners and many edge pieces already.

  3. David, You’re so kind ๐Ÿ™‚
I have actually written a book. It’s called, “Almost Nothing: From the edge of starvation and the brink of divorce, one girl’s God gave her lasting peace”.
It’s in the hands of an agent now…so we’ll see! Thanks for the encouragement!
I do feel like I might have another one simmering inside but I don’t know enough to put the pieces of it together yet. ๐Ÿ™‚
I’ll have to add Rick Warren’s books to my growing pile of “to read”!
