Body Language

My thighs lie.

Every morning I roll out of bed, brush my teeth, make the bed, feed the dog, have my quiet time with the Lord, walk the dog and go to the gym.  It’s easiest to get dressed for all of the upcoming activities first thing.  This morning, I grabbed leggings.  So, you ask?

I sat down in perfect peace with my delicious cup of home-brewed coffee and spread my Bible open over my thighs – which were already spreading broadly over the chair.  Not what I wanted to see.  Just last night I had gone to bed in body-confidence.  I have been lifting weights and feeling strong.  Surprisingly, I’ve been happy with my body.  All of a sudden, in that compromised position, I didn’t feel so confident anymore.  It’s a good thing I had just opened my Bible.  I was dire need of the truth.

You are probably very familiar with Ps. 139.  But God showed me an entirely different place where He confirms His intimate involvement in everything about me from my DNA to my metabolism to my favorite color.

“Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.'” Jeremiah 1:5

What article of clothing triggers the lies you have internalized about your body?  Is it something besides clothing?  Come on, I was honest!
